TROON CIVIC AWARD WINNER
Troon Community Council is delighted to announce that our Civic Award Winner and Citizen of the Year for 2026 is Pipe Major Christopher Bone of the 1st Troon Boys Brigade Pipe Band.
Chris has been Pipe Major of the band for over 30 years with the band becoming one of the most well-thought of in the country, with an impressive record of achievement.
The band are two-time World Champions, claiming the honour in 2016 and 2022, and have also secured victories at the European, UK, British and Scottish Championships, alongside countless other major competition successes and accolades at a local level. Beyond competitions, the band’s reputation has taken them far and wide, including a tour of China, performances alongside the Scottish Fiddle Orchestra, and the rare privilege of playing for the late Queen Elizabeth II and Duke of Edinburgh, as well as for His Majesty King Charles III (then Prince Charles) and Queen Camilla.
Chris has always been very eager to keep the band as a community-facing organisation here in Troon, playing regularly at Church Parades, the TCC Gala Day and a number of other events within the town.
For three decades, Chris has given up his time tirelessly every week, mentoring, teaching and leading by example for hundreds of young men in Troon, all while asking for nothing in return. His service and musical standards, have been instrumental in developing young pipers and drummers for generations and maintaining the band’s place at the very top of competitive piping.
Frances Carson and Fiona Girvan, along with several other members of Troon Community Council, went along to the Band’s Spring Concert to present Chris with his award.
