The Role of the Troon Community Council

Community Councils are voluntary bodies which exist within a statutory framework and which have been granted statutory rights of consultation. The general purpose of the Troon Community Council is to ascertain, co-ordinate and express the wider views of the entire community within its boundaries. Community Councils will seek to represent and include all sections of their communities, regardless of age, gender, ability, ethnic origin, political or religious beliefs, or sexual orientation. They can complement the role of the local authority but are not part of local government.

TROON LIBRARY RELOCATION – EARLY YEARS SPACES – PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT PROCESS INFORMATION

The SAC engagement process starts 28th March and information will be available in Troon Library from 27th March onwards.

South Ayrshire Council will undertake public engagement as it looks to expand the
number of early years spaces in Troon.
The proposal is to move the Early Years Centre into Troon Library, which means that
the library would relocate
to the ground floor in Troon Municipal building.
The Council has explored a number of options in Troon over the years as it looks to
increase the amount of early learning and childcare spaces. If it goes ahead, the
provision will also mean places for 2-year-olds and more flexible choices of
attendance patterns and times for parents.
If agreed, £540,000 would be invested in the new look library and approximately £1.4
million would be used to convert the existing library into a fit for purpose Early Years
Centre.
Engagement with locals is key when considering these proposals and the Council
will conduct face to face meetings with groups that could be affected. There are also
plans for an online survey.
The public engagement is set to begin in mid-March and will last until June. We’ll
issue more information when it becomes available.
Social media
We will start a public engagement exercise in mid-March on increasing early years
spaces in Troon. This could mean changes for the library and the municipal building.

Relocation of Troon Early Years Centre to Troon Library

South Ayrshire Council are looking to engage with members of the public, library users, parents, staff and users of community groups on the proposed relocation of Troon Early Years Centre to Troon Library and the relocation of the library to the Municipal Building.

Council staff will be available to provide information and answer questions to members of public on the following dates as part of the engagement on the proposed relocation of Troon Early Years Centre. Further dates will be added.

Council launch Active Travel Strategy

South Ayrshire Council has launched an Active Travel Strategy which aims to expand and promote active travel across the region over the next five years and beyond.

The strategy aims to place the needs of residents and local businesses at the heart of the expanding active travel network. This includes identifying and pursuing specific infrastructure and behaviour change initiatives to encourage active travel both within and between our communities.

Active travel encourages us to make journeys in physically active ways such as walking or cycling. Not only is this better for our health and wellbeing, but it also helps to reduce our carbon footprint and tackles climate change.

Councillor Martin Dowey, Leader of South Ayrshire Council said: “It’s vitally important that we continue to do all we can to protect the environment for future generations. This means giving people the opportunity to leave the car at home, having extensive multi-use paths which link our communities is a great way to help achieve this ambition.”
